If we are ever able to successfully deploy our space-based power system on a global scale[^1], we hope to continue our work by shifting our resources to developing technologies that embody spirit of Project Elara. We describe them briefly below. > Unlike [[Wild engineering ideas]], these are targeted towards real-world issues and while very ambitious, are ones that are directly enabled by our technology. ## Elara-powered vertical farms Vertical farms that use hydroponics for massively increased food growth efficiency, to feed the world. These can be powered by our space-based power system, which can provide more than enough electricity to run these vertical farms on a massive, global scale. ## Large-scale global climate control and mitigation With the immense energy from Project Elara's space-based solar arrays, it would become trivial to perform climate control on a truly global scale: powering the machines to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, generating clean, drinkable water with large-scale desalination or by simply pulling it from atmospheric water vapor, and keeping the Earth's climate habitable for thousands of years with [terraforming-style technologies](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terraforming). ## Elara-based nuclear fuel management This uses artificial nuclear transmutation via a more powerful version of our power beaming lasers to be able to take dangerous radioactive isotopes in nuclear fuel and convert (transmute) them into harmless elements. While it would currently require an enormous amount of energy, the amount of power provided by space-based solar power may make it practical. [^1]: This is pretty obviously not going to happen for a long time.
